Cihan Çakmak (*1993 Lower Saxony, GER) is a visual artist and photographer with a focus on socio-political-psychological questions that deal with emancipation, representation and abstraction of bodies and fragile biographies. Often based on biographies that do not correspond to white majority society, the artist creates works of art that are universally but also specifically legible, primarily in the media of photography, film, sound and drawing.
After studying photography at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, with an study visit to Lisbon, she enrolled at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in 2017. There she studied in the class of Prof. Tina Bara and received her diploma in 2021. In 2023, she completed her Meisterschüler:innen degree, also at the HGB.
